Cushion sandwich is a great deep pressure exercise that can assist children to regulate. Deep pressure has been found to impact the autonomic nervous system which regulates the heart beat, breath and other organs. Every child has their own preferences for deep pressure so it is important to listen to your child’s needs throughout. Start by asking your child to lay on their backs on either a bed or couch. Use a pillow and press down on the child’s body starting with the legs and moving to the arms. Ensure you do not press on the child’s stomach or chest. Continue pressing around the body until the child is ready to stop.
