Strike a balance is an exercise that requires you to lift your limbs on an exercise mat. You start with kneeling with knees and hands on the mat on the floor. The exercise is divided into two levels. For level one, your child only needs to lift one of your limbs. For level two, you are required to lift one arm and one leg simultaneously. So, level 2 is more challenging for you. In each movement, you will need to count 3 seconds to hold his pose before putting your limb(s) back on the mat.
By involving both sides of the limbs to move, it aims at strengthening bilateral coordination. This exercise helps to build up balance and core body strength over time via practice. In addition, the whole activity itself requires skills to follow instructions. This helps improve the ability of your child to follow along with the daily instructions. As this activity helps to strengthen the core and limb muscles, it might be useful for maintaining better body posture and enhancing engagement in sports and exercises which require balance.
Extension: Repeat each set of exercises by slowly increasing time to lift your limbs.
Tips: Lift up your arm until you can see your arm at the front. Avoid hyperextension of the elbow. Raise your leg until it is horizontal to your body. Avoid hyperextension of the knee. To make this exercise easier, break the steps into two. Firstly, lift an arm and then extend an opposite leg on the ground without lifting it.
