This activity is great to provide vestibular input. The vestibular system is located in the in centre of the inner ear and provides our brains with information about which way is up and which way we are moving. It helps us feel confident moving and interacting with our surroundings.
To begin this activity, you will need an exercise ball. Depending on the age of your child you may need to support them to lay on their back on the ball. While stabilising at their hips, support them to roll back and forth on the ball. You can place puzzle pieces or bean bags on the floor for your child to reach back and look with their eyes to locate. Your child can reach back to collect them and use their core muscles to sit up. When completing the sit-ups be sure your child’s feet are stabilised on the floor or resting on your legs for support.
