Tug of war is a great heavy work activity to do with your child to help with body awareness, proprioceptive input, and self-regulation.
You’ll need a rope or, alternatively, a sheet or towel. This video focuses on assuming the right body position and finding balance to make sure your child’s body is getting the right proprioceptive input. Once your child has mastered this, you can play tug of war! Pull and tug to win but remember correct body positioning. You can pull or lax the rope to correct your child’s positioning.
Tips: We want a just right challenge for your child so make sure you don’t make it too easy or too hard (i.e., don’t pull too soft or too hard). Your child should be putting in some effort to engage in this heavy work. Make sure your child keeps the right posture and positioning!
